Missions
The Institut des Sciences de la Terre at Grenoble (ISTerre/CNRS), France, is opening an engineer position in the framework of the ERC project SEISMAZE.This project aims at studying slow transient deformation processes in geological systems based on seismological observations and is, in particular, focused on low-frequency tremors and earthquakes observed in active faults and volcanic systems.
Activities
This engineer position is planned during 4 months and is aimed at modeling at emergence of low-frequency earthquakes forced by rapid pressure transients in a system with spatially and temporally variable hydraulic permeability.
Skills
The expected skills are:
MS in Geophysics. Good knowledge of fluid dynamics. Good level in computer programming with languages such as Python, C, C++
Work Context
ISTerre (Insitut des Sciences de la Terre/Institute of Earth Sciences) is a joint research unit comprised of 300 people. It operates under the supervision of the CNRS, University Grenoble Alps, University Savoie Mont Blanc, French National Research Institute for Development and Université Gustave Eiffel. ISTerre is located at 1381 rue de la Piscine, 38400 Saint-Martin d'Hères and on the Bourget du Lac Scientific Campus. Website: https://www.isterre.fr/
Organized in 10 research teams, the primary goal of our research unit is the physical and chemical study of the planet Earth through a combination of observations of natural objects, experimentation, and the modeling of complex processes.
The engineer will work under the supervision of the principal investigator and will integrate the Ondes & structures team of ISTerre comprising 70 researchers, post-docs and PhD students, including the members of the SEISMAZE project team.
