Missions
The objective of the mission is to produce a corpus of XML-TEI files for editing textual sources and to create the web application that will allow them to be published online with the consultation and research tools expected in this type of production. (search engine and full text, criteria-based and faceted, different views). This mission is part of Work package 1 of the ANR-DFG KIT programme, devoted to the compilation and edition of all the written sources concerning the three kingdoms of Kition, Idalion and Tamassos (Cyprus).
Activities
- Definition of a digital publishing scheme adapted to the different sources, literary and epigraphic (modeling and structuring of data)
- Digital edition of notices sent by team members (XML-TEI encoding)
- Creation of an online publication portal hosted on Huma-Num
Skills
- Knowledge of digital editing of written sources (TEI and EpiDoc standards)
- Knowledge of epigraphy recommended
- Desired mastery of the oXygen Editor software (or equivalent), knowledge of a CMS for publishing XML-TEI sources (MaX, TeiPublisher, etc.), mastery of transformation languages (XSLT, XQuery)
- Proficiency in HTML and CSS
- Knowledge of a programming language (Python, JavaScript, PHP…) appreciated
- Basic knowledge in the fields of archeology and history

- Necessary exchanges in English with some members of the project (B2 level Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)
- A Master's degree in a Human Sciences discipline, preferably in epigraphy, classics or history will be an asset.
Work Context
The engineer will be hosted in an office of the HiSoMA research unit, in the premises of MOM, Lyon. He/she will have a laptop computer and the necessary softwares. He.she will have the possibility of teleworking after six months of contract, within the limit of two days a week. He.She will be entitled to annual leave (44 annual working days prorated to the duration of the fixed-term contract). He.She will benefit from a partial reimbursement of his transport costs as well as part of the expenses related to the mutual insurance company. He.She will benefit from the possibility of exchanging with the engineering pole of the laboratory which includes two engineers specialized in the digital edition of textual sources, in particular epigraphic.
Additional Information
The position is sought within the framework of the ANR-DFG KIT programme, led by the HiSoMA research unit, under the coordination of S. Fourrier and A. Cannavò (CNRS). The ANR-DFG programme KIT- Kition, Idalion and Tamassos. Cities and territories within Cypriot kingdoms during the first millennium BC (April 2022-March 2025) aims to study the three neighboring Cypriot kingdoms of Kition, Idalion and Tamassos over the long duration of the Iron Age and according to a cross-sectional approach , concurrently apprehending written sources (literary and epigraphic texts), coins, archaeological documentation and spatial analysis
