Missions
The post-doctoral student will work in the Energy and Environment department of IJCLab in a team made up of two researchers in radiochemistry, within the frame of the ANR CHESS contract (CHEmistry, Spectroscopy and Speciation of protactinium). The aim is to develop experimental protocol(s) by chemical or/and electrochemical means, in order to prepare and stabilize protactinium at the +IV oxidation state. Then the interaction between Pa(IV) and organic ligands, especially polyaminocarboxylic acids will be investigated using spectroscopic techniques. The collected data will be compared whith those relative to other actinides (IV) and to theoretical calculations (simulation of emission and absorption spectra, complexes geometry)
Activities
He/she will be involved in the following activities
-purification of 231Pa and preparation of Pa(V) samples
-development of chemical or/and electrochemical methods to produce Pa(IV) and study of its stability using UV-Vis absorption spectrophotometry and Time Resolved Laser Induced Spectroscopy.
-complexation studies
-participation in working meetings of the CHESS project
Skills
The candidate should have a PhD degree in radiochemistry or analytical chemistry. A strong background in spectroscopic techniques will be required, as well as expertise in handling radioactive material.
-Knowledge in solution chemistry, spectroscopic techniques and handling of radioactive matter
-Ability to work in a team (CHESS is a collaborative project which involves experimenters and theoreticians)
-Thorough knowledge of health and safety rules related to the work in controlled area
-Mastery of English read, written and spoken.
Work Context
The Irène Joliot-Curie Laboratory of Physics of the 2 Infinities is a laboratory of physics of the two infinities under the supervision of the CNRS, the University of Paris-Saclay and the University of Paris Cité located on the university campus of Orsay.
The laboratory's research themes are nuclear physics, high-energy physics, astroparticles and cosmology, theoretical physics, particle accelerators and detectors, as well as research and technical developments and associated applications for energy, health and the environment.
The structure has a very important technical capacity (about 280 engineers and technicians) in all the major fields required to design, develop and implement the experimental devices necessary for its scientific activity: mechanics, electronics, computing, instrumentation, acceleration techniques and biology. These technical strengths represent a major asset for the design, development and use of the necessary instruments (accelerators and detectors). The presence of research infrastructures and technological platforms on the laboratory site is also a major asset. Finally, about 90 ITAs from the administrative and support services work alongside the scientists and engineers.
The post-doctoral student will work in the Energy and Environment division in a team consisting of two radiochemists, in the framework of the ANR CHESS (CHEmistry, Spectroscopy and Speciation of protactinium) project.
Additional Information
Applications should include a detailed CV and a cover letter. As IJCLab is subjected to ZRR (Zone à Régime Restrictif) military regulation, hiring choices must be approved by the Haut Fonctionnaire Securité Défense (HFSD). Therefore, the date of employment written above should be understood as provisional, and may need to be delayed.
