Description of the thesis topic

The EM2C laboratory is seeking a highly motivated candidate for a PhD in data-driven,
physics-informed, and probabilistic modeling of turbulent combustion. The PhD work will
combine experimental data from the BIMER rig, which represents lean premixed
prevaporized injectors in gas turbine engines, with high-fidelity simulations validated in
collaboration with project partners. The research will build on recent advances in machine
learning for dynamical systems to extract meaningful representations of complex flame
dynamics, construct prognostic ROMs, and perform data assimilation for online model
updating.

Work Context

The EM2C laboratory (CNRS/INSIS and Université Paris-Saclay/CentraleSupélec http://em2c.centralesupelec.fr/), through its high-level academic research on energy and combustion and its applied studies in partnership with the most prominent companies or research centers in the field of transport and energy, contributes significantly to the advancement of knowledge on these critical issues, both for the climate and the environment. To respond to these challenges, the laboratory's research activities are organized around three axes: Combustion, Non-equilibrium Plasmas, Physics of Transfers, and a cross-disciplinary activity in Applied Mathematics. You will be included in the Combustion axis, and as a PhD student (M/F), you will be registered in the SMEMAG doctoral school (ED 579 - Mechanical & Energy Sciences, Materials & Geosciences).
The EM2C Laboratory has approximately 45 permanent staff members (researchers, teacher-researchers & research support staff) and 35 PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, trainees, and visiting professors.
The position is in a sector falling under the protection of scientific and technical potential (PPST) and, therefore, requires, in accordance with regulations, that the competent authority of the MESR authorize your arrival.
