Stratégie d'établissement
The challenges related to understanding the chemistry of environments and their impacts on health and society are key areas of French research. These themes are explicitly included in the priorities of the Research Programming Law (Report annexed to Law No. 2020-1674). Chemistry is among the disciplines at the heart of these issues, as evidenced by the CNRS's 2019-2023 Objectives and Performance Contract.
The creation of a Junior Professor Chair at the CNRS in 2025, within a laboratory affiliated with the INC, would strengthen this field, where French chemistry plays a key role. Furthermore, this support is fully aligned with the CNRS Chemistry's sustainable development strategy, which places environmental issues and the crucial role of chemistry in addressing them at its core.
This chair will enhance CNRS Chemistry's ability to tackle major societal challenges, particularly the detection of pollutants, their treatment, and the implementation of innovative strategies for their elimination in various environments.
Stratégie du laboratoire d'accueil
Environmental chemistry is a highly interdisciplinary field, addressed by multiple research teams at the CNRS, in close interaction with Earth sciences, physics, and engineering. Several top-tier laboratories are capable of hosting a successful candidate in this field.
The four selected laboratories (in alphabetical order: ICPEES, IPREM, LASIRE, and LCE) were chosen among the best French laboratories, recognized for their experience and capacity to advance this research area.
Stratégie Internationale
Understanding the evolution of our environment is a research theme of international significance, essential for grasping the mechanisms of ongoing climate change. Work in this field operates at a highly competitive level on a global scale.
The successful candidate will be expected to establish a strong network of collaborations with leading institutes and universities specializing in this field. Active involvement in national and international environmental chemistry networks will be particularly valued, as will the development of partnerships with major national and international agencies engaged in this domain.

Résumé du projet scientifique
The project aims to deepen the understanding of physicochemical processes occurring in various terrestrial environments, including the atmosphere, aquatic systems, and soils. It will rely on laboratory experiments and the development of analytical methodologies to provide insights into the reactivity of these environments.
The project may explore interfacial interactions, thereby enriching our understanding of multi-environment dynamics. Analytical techniques will enable the ultra-trace detection of organic compounds in complex samples representative of these environments. These advancements will be valuable for pollutant monitoring and the study of degradation mechanisms.
The analyses will generate new data to better understand the reactivity of these environments and identify potential secondary products that may form. Additionally, the miniaturization of analytical techniques may be considered to facilitate on-site analyses.
Résumé du projet d'enseignement
The research theme of this CNRS chair can be adapted to the various targeted universities across the country, depending on the recruitment location. The successful candidate will contribute in particular to teaching in areas such as physical chemistry, chemical kinetics, analytical chemistry, theoretical chemistry, analytical techniques for gas and liquid phases, sustainable development, and atmospheric chemistry at the undergraduate and master's levels.

Diffusion scientifique
The dissemination of the results will be done through world-class scientific productions: publications, patents, software... In addition, the results will be communicated to various targets such as scientific communities, media, decision makers, general public, schools, etc., with an adapted calendar. Specific tools may be developed such as websites, newsletters, meetings, international symposia, summer schools and conferences.
Science ouverte
The CNRS is developing a strong policy in favor of open science. Open science consists of making research results "as accessible as possible and closed as necessary". As such, the CNRS aims to make 100% of the texts of publications resulting from the work of its laboratories accessible , in particular through deposit in HAL. The data produced must also be made available and reusable, except for specific restrictions. In addition, the guiding principles of individual evaluation have been revised in accordance with the DORA declaration, to be more qualitative and to take into account all facets of the researcher's profession.
Science et société
The relationship between science and society is now recognized as a full dimension of scientific activity. The project will develop this dimension in synergy with all the partners. The resulting research work will contribute to informing public decision-making. Participatory science initiatives may be initiated with actors from the project’s socio-economic and cultural eco-system.
Indicateurs
The activity will be evaluated in particular on the basis of scientific production (publications, software, patents, etc.), on institutional and private partnerships formalized by contracts, on international presence, on the promotion of work to multidisciplinary scientific communities, on innovation and its transfer to society and on scientific dissemination to non-specialist audiences.
