Stratégie d'établissement

The person recruited for the CPJ will strengthen the links between the innovative interdisciplinary research that has made the Clermont-Ferrand site an international benchmark for cloud chemistry, physics, ecology and biogeochemistry. CPJ will benefit from innovative research in atmospheric sciences, microbial ecology and environmental chemistry, both in the field (Puy de Dôme and other stations), in the laboratory (simulation chamber) and in silico. The CPJ will reinforce research conducted more broadly on the water cycle as part of the Environmental Research Federation (FR 3467) co-sponsored by CNRS and UCA. The NUAGES CPJ is fully in line with the national perspectives of the institutes concerned, as well as the framework of the Research Infrastructures (IR) co-sponsored by CNRS on the Clermont-Ferrand site (e.g. IR ACTRIS and its components). CNRS is committed to maintaining French excellence at the forefront of environmental science research, opening doors to new research horizons, and contributing to the development of data acquisition capabilities (instrumental, experimental, methodological) to complete knowledge of key tropospheric processes in a context of change.

Stratégie du laboratoire d'accueil

The Clermont-Ferrand site has initiated a process of reflection on the evolution of the Federation of Environmental Research, which will take place in 2024. This evolution of the Federation towards interdisciplinary activities, refocused on the themes of Water, Environment and Territories, is materialized by the setting up of an inter-institute CPJ, based on the main laboratories involved in this project and belonging to three CNRS institutes (INEE, INSU and INC). The 3 target units for this CPJ are LMGE, whose specificity is to combine, within the same structure, skills in genomics and post-genomics on the one hand, and in population and ecosystem biology and ecology on the other; LaMP, whose activities are focused on physico-chemical measurements in clouds in the liquid, icy and interstitial gas and particle phases, and ICCF, which focuses on the fate of chemical pollutants in the water/vegetation/soil compartments, with particular emphasis on the bio-physico-chemical study of clouds.

Stratégie Internationale

The aim of this Chair is to recruit a young, internationally recognized scientist with strong potential for supervising young French and foreign students. It will also be designed to strengthen and develop links with international partners in fields in which the host laboratories have solid expertise and international recognition. The chairholder will be expected to implement actions and partnerships in the thematic field, and in particular to submit a project in response to European calls for proposals (ERC, Horizon Europe Consortium, etc.) during the 5 years of his or her contract.

Résumé du projet scientifique

The primary aim of the CPJ is to coordinate research at laboratory level in at least two of the following thematic areas:
- Quantifying the functional aspects of the atmospheric microbiome, specifying its interactions with chemical reactivity, and the selective role played by atmospheric transport on microbial biodiversity,
- Integrate clouds into their environmental and societal context, by studying surface-atmosphere exchanges of chemical and biological material (including pathogens): study the transfer of biological and chemical material and functions along the water cycle.
- Develop instruments for in natura, laboratory or in silico experiments to quantify cloud dynamics and biogeochemical functioning,
- Study molecular transfers and interactions in multiphase cloud environments involving photo- and bio-transformation mechanisms, and their implications for cloud fate.

Résumé du projet d'enseignement

Teaching will be discussed́ with the University of Clermont Auvergne. He/she will be involved on each site in existing courses depending on the profile of the person recruited. The teaching service of 42h TD equivalent integrated into the CPJs could also be carried out in the form of “observation missions” insofar as the UCA recognizes observation service locally in the activity referential of teacher-researchers. This possibility can be discussed with the Director of the OSU OPGC.

Diffusion scientifique

The dissemination of the results will be done through world-class scientific productions: publications, patents, software... In addition, the results will be communicated to various targets such as scientific communities, media, decision makers, general public, schools, etc., with an adapted calendar. Specific tools may be developed such as websites, newsletters, meetings, international symposia, summer schools and conferences.

Science ouverte

The CNRS is developing a strong policy in favor of open science. Open science consists of making research results "as accessible as possible and closed as necessary". As such, the CNRS aims to make 100% of the texts of publications resulting from the work of its laboratories accessible , in particular through deposit in HAL. The data produced must also be made available and reusable, except for specific restrictions. In addition, the guiding principles of individual evaluation have been revised in accordance with the DORA declaration, to be more qualitative and to take into account all facets of the researcher's profession.

Science et société

The relationship between science and society is now recognized as a full dimension of scientific activity. The project will develop this dimension in synergy with all the partners. The resulting research work will contribute to informing public decision-making. Participatory science initiatives may be initiated with actors from the project’s socio-economic and cultural eco-system.

Indicateurs

The activity will be evaluated in particular on the basis of scientific production (publications, software, patents, etc.), on institutional and private partnerships formalized by contracts, on international presence, on the promotion of work to multidisciplinary scientific communities, on innovation and its transfer to society and on scientific dissemination to non-specialist audiences.
