Stratégie d'établissement
The CNRS boasts unique skills in molecule and biomolecule synthesis methodologies. In this context, glycochemistry is a declining field in France, despite the fact that for several decades it had pioneering laboratories involved in the synthesis of these complex molecules. Paradoxically, glycoscience and the functional role of these glycostructures in the functioning of living organisms has been booming in recent years. As a result, the CNRS is keen to reinforce its focus on synthesis in this field, to provide easier access to these complex structures.
Stratégie du laboratoire d'accueil
The 4 targeted laboratories (in alphabetical order: IBMM, ICBMS, ICMMO, ICOA), are developing methodological approaches for the synthesis of simple or complex saccharides or glycoconjugates. These units are highly visible nationally and internationally for their expertise in carbohydrate synthesis. However, glycostructure synthesis has become a sub-critical area of expertise in terms of research staffing levels in France, and particularly in these units (from 1 to 3 researchers), and is therefore fragile.
Stratégie Internationale
The size of the French scientific community active in glycochemical synthesis is currently sub-critical, particularly when it comes to studying the functional and structural role of these molecules, which have found an increasingly important biological position in recent years. Regaining strength and increasing skills in this field requires not only appropriate training in universities, but also the recruitment of talented scientists already trained and experienced in this field. Attracting a talented young researcher, possibly trained abroad in countries that have been able to maintain this type of activity, appears to be facilitated by the CPJ scheme, which will provide the laureate with a suitable environment in which to begin his or her project.

Résumé du projet scientifique
The development of fundamental research into new methods for glycochemical synthesis will be the focus of this Junior Professorship. Carbohydrate chemistry is indeed an essential component of the glycosciences and fundamental to their progress. Carbohydrate chemistry, or glycochemistry, must now tackle new aspects in order to be transformative for glycosciences. The rational design and improvement of glycosylation reactions must, for example, take into account the role of protecting groups, counterions and concentration during synthesis. New synthetic methods need to be applied to the synthesis of complex carbohydrates and glycans, in order to solve the persistent and tricky problems of stereoselective and regioselective synthesis using simple, high-yield reactions.
Résumé du projet d'enseignement
The research theme of this CNRS Chair can be applied to the targeted university and its partner establishments. The nature of the courses taught by the laureate in one of these establishments will be in line with the needs of the establishment in terms of bachelor's and master's degrees, and will take advantage of the profile of the laureate and his or her research in glycochemical synthesis.

Diffusion scientifique
The dissemination of the results will be done through world-class scientific productions: publications, patents, software... In addition, the results will be communicated to various targets such as scientific communities, media, decision makers, general public, schools, etc., with an adapted calendar. Specific tools may be developed such as websites, newsletters, meetings, international symposia, summer schools and conferences.
Science ouverte
The CNRS is developing a strong policy in favor of open science. Open science consists of making research results "as accessible as possible and closed as necessary". As such, the CNRS aims to make 100% of the texts of publications resulting from the work of its laboratories accessible , in particular through deposit in HAL. The data produced must also be made available and reusable, except for specific restrictions. In addition, the guiding principles of individual evaluation have been revised in accordance with the DORA declaration, to be more qualitative and to take into account all facets of the researcher's profession.
Science et société
The relationship between science and society is now recognized as a full dimension of scientific activity. The project will develop this dimension in synergy with all the partners. The resulting research work will contribute to informing public decision-making. Participatory science initiatives may be initiated with actors from the project’s socio-economic and cultural eco-system.
Indicateurs
The activity will be evaluated in particular on the basis of scientific production (publications, software, patents, etc.), on institutional and private partnerships formalized by contracts, on international presence, on the promotion of work to multidisciplinary scientific communities, on innovation and its transfer to society and on scientific dissemination to non-specialist audiences.
