Job Description

Missions

Recruitment of a researcher (M/F) in soft matter physics, fluid mechanics, or solid mechanics to study the physics of grain/fiber mixtures using an experimental approach.

Activity

The research (M/F) will involve conducting controlled experiments on model grain-fiber mixtures to study the physical mechanisms of reinforcement. The role will involve designing and implementing experimental protocols (mixing processes, rheology, flow configurations), conducting laboratory measurements, and utilizing imaging techniques to track the dispersion, deformation, and interactions of fibers within the granular medium. The candidate (M/F) will specifically study the influence of fiber parameters, such as aspect ratio, concentration, and flexibility, on these phenomena. A significant portion of the work will focus on image processing and quantitative analysis, as well as on interpreting results in conjunction with theoretical approaches aimed at describing fiber entanglement and its impact on the material's mechanical properties.

Your Profil

Skills

We are seeking highly motivated candidates (M/F) with a PhD in Soft Matter Physics, Fluid Mechanics, or Solid Mechanics, and a strong interest in experimental research. A substantial part of the project will involve the processing and analysis of experimental images; therefore, proficiency in Python or MATLAB is expected.

Your Work Environment

The research will be conducted at the FAST laboratory, within the “Granular and Suspensions” team, under the supervision of Baptiste Darbois Texier. FAST is a fluid mechanics laboratory jointly managed by the CNRS and Paris-Saclay University, located south of Paris.
