Missions
LATMOS, in collaboration with LMD, is looking for a researcher (M/F) to integrate a module for photovoltaic agriculture into the RegIPSL regional climate model, which couples the ORCHIDEE surface scheme with the WRF atmospheric model. A photovoltaic layer has already been integrated into ORCHIDEE, allowing the solar radiation and wind received by the ORCHIDEE surface model to be adjusted from the forcing models. This development makes it possible to analyze the impact of adding photovoltaic panels to agricultural surfaces according to various criteria, including primary production, energy production, and water use. The objective of the recruited person's work will be to move from forced mode to coupled mode, taking into account the effects of the PV layer on flows and turbulent flows.
Activities
The IPSL regional coupled model couples the WRF atmospheric model with the complex ORCHIDEE continental surface model, which simulates the surface/subsurface water cycle, the carbon cycle, and plant dynamics for several types of crops. RegIPSL can be used at very high resolutions (~3km), allowing for accurate representation of surface heterogeneities and local processes (Shahi et al., 2022), which enables us to study the impacts of anthropogenic surface changes on the surrounding climate. The successful candidate will be required to modify the coupling between the atmosphere and the surface using a two-layer approach in order to take into account the impacts of AGRIPV panels on flows, radiation, and thermodynamic variables. Collaboration with INRAE Bordeaux, which has already addressed this issue with another model, is planned.
Skills
Hold a PhD in atmospheric sciences with an interest and experience in the following areas:
Continental surface-atmosphere interactions and boundary layer dynamics, turbulence
Good knowledge of continental surface models and weather prediction models or climate models (global or regional)
Good level of written and spoken English
Be autonomous in the Linux environment with knowledge of shell, FORTRAN, Python, or R
Work Context
The selected candidate will be recruited by LATMOS and will work either at LMD-IPSL (Palaiseau) or LATMOS-IPSL (Guyancourt), or both. Possibility of teleworking one day per week.
The position is located in a sector under the protection of scientific and technical potential (PPST), and therefore requires, in accordance with the regulations, that your arrival is authorized by the competent authority of the MESR.
