Job Description

Missions

The BepiColombo mission, a joint undertaking by the European (ESA) and Japanese (JAXA) space agencies, is dedicated to studying the planet Mercury. The PHEBUS instrument, developed by LATMOS, is a spectrometer featuring two ultraviolet channels and two visible-light channels. It was designed to study Mercury's exosphere and its interactions with the planet's surface and the interplanetary environment. LATMOS is responsible for PHEBUS operations as well as the production and distribution of scientific data in collaboration with ESA. LATMOS will coordinate the initial scientific analysis of PHEBUS data.

Activity

This position is for a postdoctoral researcher (M/F) who will participate in various tasks carried out by the PHEBUS team at LATMOS as part of the Bepi-Colombo mission.
Activities will include scientific data analysis, the planning and scheduling of scientific observations, and the development of code for generating archived data products.

Your Profil

Skills

PhD in Astrophysics.
- Strong knowledge of planetary physics, particularly regarding planetary exospheres.
- Knowledge of ultraviolet spectroscopy and data processing.
- Proficiency in Python (essential) and IDL (optional).
- High level of proficiency in French and English.

Your Work Environment

The PHEBUS team is based at the LATMOS site in Guyancourt (OVSQ). Work will be performed at this location. The team consists of three permanent scientists and four support engineers.
