Job Description

Missions

We are recruiting a bioinformatics engineer (M/F). This project focuses on the characterization of the pan-genome of the phytoplanktonic microalga Bathycoccus prasinos in order to identify, in the ocean, population structure and adaptation mechanisms across spatial and temporal scales.

Activity

The main activity will consist of assembling sequencing data generated using Oxford Nanopore technology from a collection of approximately 150 genomes, and then integrating them into pan-genome analysis and visualization tools.
A second mission will focus on identifying insertion/deletion (indel) markers specific to different populations, followed by their mapping onto environmental metagenomic and metatranscriptomic datasets from the global ocean.

Your Profil

Skills

Education: Master's degree in bioinformatics or an equivalent qualification.
The candidate must have strong skills in bioinformatics and programming (particularly in Python). Experience in genome assembly and analysis, as well as in the construction and analysis of pan-genomes, would be highly appreciated.
Qualities such as adaptability, teamwork, rigor, and autonomy are also essential. Proficiency in scientific English is required, both for report writing and oral communication.

Your Work Environment

The position is based at the Laboratory of Microbial Oceanography (LOMIC), located in Banyuls-sur-Mer. The work will also take place at the DIADE laboratory located in Montpellier, as part of a collaboration conducted through a project funded by the French National Research Agency.
LOMIC is recognized as a leading player in the study of the biology and ecology of eukaryotic picophytoplankton. The DIADE laboratory, for its part, is a pioneer in the field of pangenomic analyses and provides state-of-the-art computational infrastructure essential for the successful completion of the project.
