Missions

Scientific analysis of the data from the Rosetta space mission, in particular the data from the OSIRIS cameras

Activities

The work will focus on the data analysis of the Rosetta mission of the European Space Agency (ESA). The applicant will define a research project focused on comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko. This project must include data from the OSIRIS cameras, either images, and/or nucleus shape model, and/or digital terrain models. The project can be “multi-instruments” and include data from other instruments, in addition to the OSIRIS data (e.g. VIRTIS, MIRO, ROSINA…). Any research project is admissible, centered on the nucleus of 67P (interior, surface) and/or on its coma (dust, gas).
If concluding results are obtained, they will be the topic for article(s) in peer-reviewed journals, and they will be presented in international conference(s).

Skills

For this job, the following competences will be evaluated:

- Knowledge and background in cometary sciences
- Competences in space mission data analysis
- A good level in English (reading, listening, writing)
- Capabilities to work in a team
- A good sense of initiative

Work Context

The work will be carried on at the Laboratoire d'Astrophysique de Marseille (www.lam.fr), in the group of planetary sciences, in collaboration with Olivier Groussin and Laurent Jorda. To fulfill these research activities, the institute will provide the necessary support (e.g. office space, computer, publication and travel money).
