Missions
Development of ceramic formulations for microwave sealing of ceramic overpacks for nuclear waste as part of the European EURAD2 project (https://www.ejp-eurad.eu/)
Activités
The objective will be to develop intimate mixtures of ceramic powders, potentially containing a glassy phase, based on sealing formulations developed from IRCER's expertise acquired during the EURAD1 project. We expect that local-scale mixing of the different components of the sealing material will result in improved—or even optimized—microwave coupling. For instance, the materials in the mixture will differ in their ability to couple with microwaves. This will make it possible to locally exploit (i.e., at the powder grain level) the best-coupling material to achieve a localized, efficient, homogeneous, and rapid microwave heating process. These sealing formulations will mainly consist of silico-aluminates, which will be modified if necessary via sol-gel processing.
The work at IRCER will be carried out in direct collaboration with the team of Patrick GANSTER (CNRS – LGF UMR 5146), who will be the end user of the sealing materials and will conduct the microwave sintering experiments.
Compétences
SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNICAL SKILLS
- Proficiency in ceramic processing techniques (shaping, sintering, etc.)
- Materials characterization (XRD, SEM, TEM, BET, dilatometry, rheology, etc.)
- Knowledge of materials chemistry
- Experience with laboratory equipment (furnaces, presses, etc.)
DIGITAL SKILLS
The project does not involve numerical simulation, but familiarity with digital tools and data processing will be appreciated (Python, Matlab, advanced Excel)
OTHER SKILLS
- Excellent command of scientific and technical English (written and spoken)
- Scientific writing (articles, project reports)
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills in an international context
Contexte de travail
The work will be carried out at the Institute of Research on Ceramics (IRCER, UMR 7315, CNRS/University of Limoges). IRCER (200 members) is the largest academic research laboratory in Europe specializing in the study and development of innovative ceramic processing techniques. https://www.ircer.fr/
The position will be specifically assigned to IRCER's "Innovative Ceramic Processes" team. It is important to note that this position is part of the European EURAD2 project (https://www.ejp-eurad.eu/). As such, the work will take place in a collaborative setting involving numerous European partners. Special interactions are expected with ANDRA (French National Agency for Radioactive Waste Management – coordinator of the EURAD2 project) and the École des Mines de Saint-Étienne (for microwave sintering issues).
Le poste se situe dans un secteur relevant de la protection du potentiel scientifique et technique (PPST), et nécessite donc, conformément à la réglementation, que votre arrivée soit autorisée par l'autorité compétente du MESR.
Contraintes et risques
No specific risks. The sealing formulations will be primarily based on silico-aluminous materials. The work will not involve any radioactive elements. Personal protective equipment (PPE) will be required only when justified.
