Missions
The successful candidate will work within P. Degiovanni's group at Ecole Normale Supérieure de Lyon (Laboratoire de Physique) on a project aimed at using quantum electrical currents based on one or few excitations to generate or manipulate quantum radiation into a microwave resonator. The proposed work is part of the Quantera “ElQuRes” research project (2024–2027), coordinated by the University of Latvia (Kashcheyevs Vyacheslavs) and involving, in addition to ENS Lyon, the German Metrology Institut "PTB" (Ubbelohde Niels) as well as the mesoscopic physics group at the École Normale Supérieure in Paris (Gwendal Fève and Gerbold Ménard).
The recruited person will contribute to the theoretical modeling required for the project.
Activities
The requested work will consist in modeling the various elements required to describe the quantum back action of an electric current based on one or a few electronic excitations propagating along an edge channel of the integer quantum Hall effect and interacting with a microwave cavity. To this end, a model of the “one-shot” electron detection process implemented at the German metrology institute will be developed, which will make it possible to determine the associated quantum feedback on a cavity with which the electronic fluid has interacted via capacitive coupling before being subjected to the one-shot measurement. The influence of the initial state as well as the role of electronic decoherence effects will be investigated in depth.
Most of the modeling will be analytical, based on techniques commonly used in electronic quantum optics and photonic quantum optics, with a numerical step to obtain quantitative results for describing the experiments.
Skills
We are looking for an early-career researcher (1 to 3 years after PhD) with experience in mesoscopic physics (coherent electronic transport) or in quantum optics, and ideally with numerical skills.
Work Context
The work will be carried out within Pascal Degiovanni's group in the Physics Laboratory (UMR 5672) at ENS Lyon. This group currently includes a PhD student and a postdoctoral researcher in addition to the researcher leading the activity. This group is part of a broader informal network on electron/anyon/photon quantum optics and quantum signal processing involving groups in Paris (G. Fève, G. Ménard, F. Parmentier) and Orsay (I. Safi), as well as at the University of Lille (A. Feller).
The work will be conducted in collaboration with the various partners of the consortium associated with the project. A few weekly consortium workshops will be organized as the project progresses to exchange between the various partners.
