Missions
The researcher will work as part of a team of biologists, physicists and computer scientists at ENS Lyon to test the role of division orientation on plant tissue morphogenesis.
Activités
The researcher will work at the interface between mechanical modeling and image analysis to study the impact of cell division orientation on tissue-scale mechanical stress and root morphogenesis in Arabidopsis thaliana, and develop innovative tools and methodologies for quantitative 3D analysis of cell division plane orientation. The analysis of confocal microscopy images will be based on standard software, as well as on tools developed within the RDP laboratory, in collaboration with the team. The researcher will actively contribute to the design of numerical simulations, and implement them independently.
Compétences
Mechanical modeling: good understanding of the concepts of continuum mechanics and cell mechanics, particularly as applied to plant tissue biology. Biological image analysis: mastery of 3D image analysis techniques (segmentation, cell tracking, extraction of geometric data from confocal images). Plant development biology: general knowledge of root development and the role of meristems in Arabidopsis thaliana (a plus, but can be acquired). Numerical simulations: experience in designing and implementing simulations in a biological framework (e.g. finite element models); autonomy in design, execution and analysis of results; excellent ability to integrate and work in a team; excellent ability to present results in writing and orally; English: read, write, speak.
Contexte de travail
The researcher will work in the SIGNAL ("Signalisation hormonale et développement") team of the Reproduction et Développement des Plantes Laboratory (RPD, CNRS UMR 5667, Lyon), see http://www.ens-lyon.fr/RDP/signalisation-hormonale-et-developpement/.
Located on the Monod campus of the ENS Lyon, the RDP laboratory brings together 120 collaborators in 9 research teams. We have all the resources and infrastructures needed to carry out our research missions. In our dynamic, collaborative environment, creativity is encouraged, giving everyone the opportunity to contribute to innovative research projects.
