Missions

KidsCaN lab has a position open for a Cancer Neuroscientist to study the impact of neuronal activity on tumor progression in neuroblastoma. Neuroblastoma (NB) is an emblematic pediatric cancer of the peripheral nervous system, of embryonic origin, with a typically large and aggressive metastatic pattern. Despite its emergence in sites of neuronal communication, the impact of neuronal activity on tumor characteristics and metastatic progression is totally unknown. The project aims to decipher the full range of functional neuro-cancer interactions in neuroblastoma, at anatomical, electrophysiological and molecular levels. The successful candidate will be trained in the use of an in vivo embryonic model of metastatic neuroblastoma, involving micromanipulations in the avian embryo (Delloye-Bourgeois et al., Cancer Cell 2017; Ben Amar et al., Nat. Comms, 2022; Akkermans et al., Cell, 2022), electrophysiology experiments, optogenetics and multiscale imaging. These approaches will be combined with single-cell transcriptomic analyses as part of the team's expertise.

Activités

The candidate will join the KidsCaN "Cancer Neuroscience and Metastasis in Pediatric Malignancies" team, providing technical support and training in key approaches:
- micromanipulations in the avian embryo
- level II cell culture
- ex vivo culture
- electrophysiology on acute slices and cells (patch-clamp)
- confocal and light-sheet microscopy, videomicroscopy
- single-cell omics approaches

Compétences

Skills required:
- Expertise in electrophysiology on acute slices
- Experience in cell biology and in vivo manipulations
- Autonomy and ability to lead a collaborative project
- Excellent communication skills and team spirit

Skills not required but appreciated:
- Expertise in optogenetic techniques
- Expertise in tissue transparentization methods and light sheet imaging
- Bioinformatics (single-cell omics analyses)

Profile required:
- PhD in Neuroscience or Cancer Biology
- Ability to work in a team and in collaboration
- Highly motivated and enthusiastic
- Fluency in English essential

Contexte de travail

The team is part of a highly dynamic, international environment at the Lyon Cancer Research Center (CRCL), providing access to state-of-the-art equipment (microscopy, flow cytometry, single-cell omics techniques, etc.). The CRCL comprises 25 teams, totaling some 600 members, and is affiliated with Claude Bernard Lyon 1 University, Inserm, CNRS, Centre Léon Bérard (CLB) and Hôpitaux Universitaires de Lyon (HCL). The city of Lyon offers an excellent quality of life for young researchers and families, and is ideally located just 2 hours from Paris, Marseille and the Alps.
