Missions
Designing, implementing and maintaining the information system and guaranteeing its security, coherence and evolution; ensuring a role of prescription, advice, assistance, information, training and alert around the information system
Activities
You will be in charge of the evolution of the existing web application, to meet the needs expressed by the researchers in linguistics, in the project team as well as in partner teams. A first part of the research will consist in identifying AI techniques (semantic reasoning, but potentially others) that can benefit to linguists in an innovative way.
Another part of the research will consist in proposing an ontology of spatial relations, informed by the knowledge graph built with the researchers in linguistics.
Skills
Expected scientific and professional skills:
• knowledge engineering and ontology description languages (RDFS, OWL, …)
• web application development
Some knowledge of the following fields would be a plus
• linguistic typology
• expression of spatial notions(path of motion, location)
• ontological modelling for linguistincs (e.g. Lemon/Ontolex, Lexvo)
Work Context
SpOTy(Spatial Ontology and Typology) is a collaborative research project between the DDL lab abnd the LIRIS lab, funded by the Labex Aslan.
This project aims at a cross fertilisation between the fields of linguistics and knowledge engineering. Through compiling and analyzing a collection of crosslinguistic corpora focused on the expression of Path of motion, we aim to produce, on the one hand, a typology of the expression of space, taking into account lexicon and grammar, semantics and morphosyntax, with the help of artificial intelligence techniques; and on the other hand, an machine-processable ontology of spatial relations, relying on that typology.
A first prototype of the web application has alteady been developed in the project. This application allows to store and browse a corpus of sentences in 56 languages, tokenized and annotated with morphosyntactic categories. All this information is modelled in a knowledge graph, using Semantic Web technologies.
