Job Description
Missions
- Literature review on lateral-conducting GaN components.
- Literature review on Ga₂O₃ component technology.
- Fabrication of a diode.
- Electrical characterisation, DLTS, Raman, OBIC.
- Optimisation of the finite-element simulation of the diode.
Activity
The objective of this position is to develop the first Ga203 power device based on a heterojunction, enabling its electrical, physical, and optical characterization in order to determine the optimal parameters for finite element simulation of Ga203 devices and to identify and quantify defects in the material. Expected original contributions: Fabrication of a Schottky diode for OBIC (Optical Beam Induced Current) measurements. In addition, the candidate will be trained in the electrical characterization of GaN devices.
Your Profil
Skills
Master the following cleanroom processes: photolithography, deposition of thin metal layers, electrical characterization using an SMU and/or a Keithley 4200 or Keysight B1505 curve tracer, and Python programming.
Your Work Environment
Ga203 is an ultra-wide-bandgap semiconductor. It possesses the physical properties necessary for manufacturing high-voltage, high-current components for applications such as smart grids. The INL has been working for several years on the physical characterization of this material. Today, the quality of this material allows us to envision the manufacture of power components. Combining the expertise acquired on Ga203 at INL, INL's cleanroom, and AMPERE's expertise in power components makes it possible to propose this original thesis topic in France. In Europe, the United States, and Japan, research projects are underway on the development of power components. GaN is a wide-bandgap semiconductor. The technology is more mature than that of Ga₂O₃. Today, transistor-type components are available on the market. All developments are focused on lateral-conduction components. The PEPR VERTIGO project, on the other hand, proposes an alternative using GaN components but with vertical conduction. By joining the AMPERE laboratory, you will become part of a research unit spread across four sites and recognized for its expertise in engineering and technology. Its work focuses in particular on the management and sustainable use of energy within systems that interact with their environment.
The laboratory is particularly distinguished by its expertise in the field of microbial biobatteries applied to wastewater treatment and energy production. This excellence is based on a strong interdisciplinary approach, combining expertise in bioengineering, electrochemistry, microbiology, and electrical engineering. The AMPERE laboratory brings together nearly 210 members—including researchers, faculty members, engineers, technicians, and doctoral students—who are dedicated to ambitious research projects and cutting-edge innovations.
