Description du poste
Partially-magnetized E×B plasmas, where electrons are magnetized but ions are not, are key to technologies like Hall thrusters and ion sources for neutral beam injection in fusion. These plasmas host electrostatic instabilities that can lead to wave turbulence. This project aims to study turbulence-driven transport with a pseudo-spectral solver (originally for fusion plasmas) in E×B partially-magnetized configurations. The focus is on understanding large-scale structure formation and the impact of parameters like gradients and boundaries. Results will be validated against kinetic simulations. Similarly, the candidate will assess the impact of the turbulent transport into macroscopic parameters as seen in experiments.
Description de l'employeur
The project will be developed in the framework of the ERC Grant HiMomPlas, oriented to the numerical study of electric propulsion plasmas. The project is developed in the Laboratoire de Physique des Plasmas of Ecole Polytechnique, a renown institution for the study of plasmas. In particular this project will be in collaboration between the fusion plasma and the low temperature groups at LPP.
Descriptif du profil recherché
The candidate ideally should have knowledge in turbulence (plasma or hydrodynamic) and numerical modeling of turbulence. Knowledge in plasma physics would be a plus.
