The objective of this research internship is to characterize the long-term impact of marine heatwaves on the plankton ecosystem and the ocean carbon cycle. The internship will use the global biogeochemical model NEMO-PISCES (Aumont et al., 2015) in a single-ocean simulation framework. The simulations will be forced by atmospheric reanalyses over the period 2000–2024, allowing the MHWs that actually occurred over the last two decades to be reproduced.

The internship will be carried out at LOCEAN (Sorbonne University), under the supervision of: • Marina Levy (LOCEAN-IPSL) • Stéphane Doléac (LOCEAN-IPSL) • Laurent Bopp (LMD-IPSL) The intern will join a research team actively involved in the development of climate and biogeochemical models, with possible interactions with other groups involved in the development of NEMO-PISCES and in the analysis of the impacts of climate change on the ocean.

Descriptif du profil recherché

The internship is open to Master's students in: • oceanography, • marine biogeochemistry, • marine ecology, • climate or environmental modeling. Desired skills: • proficiency in an analysis language (Python, R, or Matlab), • interest in numerical modeling and biogeochemistry, • ability to think critically and synthesize scientific information, • autonomy and ability to work collaboratively.
