Description du sujet de thèse
The objective of the proposed PhD thesis is to design and develop such a detector based on a double quantum dot to detect a propagating electron wave packet. The idea is to use the extreme sensitivity of a quantum system to detect in flight an electron propagating in a ballistic conductor. This will be realized by capacitive coupling of the single flying electron to a spin/charge qubit based on previous experimental work in our group. To enhance the sensitivity, we will develop this detector with a new quantum material, strained Ge heterostructures, which have shown recently the best coherence time for spin qubits.
Activities:
• Nanofabrication of quantum devices, including quantum point contacts, quantum dots and electronic waveguides.
• Set-up of a radio-frequency measurement system for qubit read-out.
• Single-shot measurement of a propagating wave packet with a quantum dot detector.
• Writing of research articles
The candidate must have a master's degree in physics.Skills in quantum physics, quantum optics and solid state physics are required. Programming skills in Python are highly appreciated.
Contexte de travail
The Institut NEEL, UPR 2940 CNRS, is one of the largest French national research institutes for fundamental research in condensed matter physics enriched by interdisciplinary activities at the interfaces with chemistry, engineering and biology. The laboratory is related to the CNRS Physique. It is located in the heart of a unique scientific, industrial and cultural environment. It is part of one of Europe's biggest high-tech environment in micro- and nanoelectronics, right next to the French Alpes.
In the Institut Néel, the QuantECA team is specialized in the experimental study of quantum electronic devices, from fundamental studies to applications of quantum technologies.
The Institut NEEL is a CNRS laboratory. CNRS is a public, scientific and technological organisation.
The core mandate is to identify, carry out ou have carried out, either alone or with partners, all research that advances science or contributes to the country's economic, social, and cultural progress. Internationally recognised for the excellence of its scientific research, the CNRS is a reference in the world of research and development, as well as for the general public.
Le poste se situe dans un secteur relevant de la protection du potentiel scientifique et technique (PPST), et nécessite donc, conformément à la réglementation, que votre arrivée soit autorisée par l'autorité compétente du MESR.
