Description du sujet de thèse
The Condensed Matter and Low Temperature Department at the Institut Néel in Grenoble, France, is offering a PhD position to work on collective modes of the crystal field and electronic orders, studied through transport and magnetization measurements as well as Raman spectroscopy, in locally non-centrosymmetric compounds. The successful candidate will work on rare earth compounds with unconventional electronic properties, with the aim of researching and understanding the collective modes associated with electronic orders. This thesis is based on experimental research, mainly on Raman spectroscopy under extreme conditions (low temperature, high pressure). The doctoral student will be required to carry out additional experiments at KIT in Germany under the supervision of Elena Hassinger.
Expected skills:
- Experiential and technical skills
- Scientific curiosity
- Support for fluid exchange between the two sites in France and Germany
- Master's degree in quantum materials
- Fluent written and spoken English
Contexte de travail
The Institut NÉEL is a CNRS unit (UPR 2940) under agreement with the University Grenoble Alpes. It is one of the largest French national research institutes for fundamental research in condensed matter physics enriched by interdisciplinary activities at the interfaces with chemistry, engineering and biology. It consists of 450 employees, including 175 researchers. It is located in the heart of a unique scientific, industrial and cultural environment, right next to the French Alpes.
In Condensed Matter - Low Temperatures (MCBT) department, the PhD will join the MAGSUP (Magnetism and Superconductivity) team, which is focused on fundamental questions in Condensed Matter systems thanks to state-of-the-art experiments. The student will be supervised by Marie-Aude and Florence Lévy-Bertrand. The thesis will be carried out in cotutelle with the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, at the Institute for Quantum Materials and Technologies (IQMT) laboratory, under the supervision of Elena Hassinger, Professor at IQMT.
The schedule will be split between the two institutions, Institut Néel and IQMT.
The position is located in an area covered by the protection of scientific and technical potential (PPST), and therefore requires, in accordance with regulations, that your arrival be authorized by the competent MESR authority.
