Description du sujet de thèse
In 2020, industrial furnaces accounted for about one quarter of our global CO2 emissions. The integration of green ammonia (NH3) into existing facilities could dramatically reduce these emissions, but NH3 combustion is usually associated with challenges, such as low flammability and NOx formation. The specific aim of this thesis is to investigate how plasma-assisted and H2-blending could mitigate these issues. The performance and the formation of pollutants in the plasma-assisted flame will be monitored using laser absorption spectroscopy at the EM2C laboratory. The experiments with a fuel blend will be conducted with the diagnostics developed by the PhD student during campaigns in laboratories at Toulouse (IMFT) and Orléans (FITe).
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
• Developing and implementing the experimental setups of laser absorption spectroscopy for H2O and N2O sensing
• Analyzing and interpreting data to understand the combustion process and optimize the experimental conditions
• Contributing to the development of models of plasma-assisted combustion based on the measurements
• Collaborating with other researchers and participating in international conferences
Contexte de travail
The EM2C Laboratory (CNRS/INSIS and Université Paris-Saclay/CentraleSupélec http://em2c.centralesupelec.fr/), through its high-level academic research in energy and combustion and its applied studies in partnership with the most prominent companies or research centers in the field of transport and energy, contribute significantly to the progress of knowledge on these critical issues, both for the climate and for the environment. To meet these challenges, the laboratory's research activities are organized around three axes entitled Combustion, Out-of-Equilibrium Plasmas, Transfer Physics, and a transversal action in Applied Mathematics. You will be included in the Combustion axe. As PhD student, you will be registered in the SMEMAG (SCIENCES MÉCANIQUES et ÉNERGÉTIQUES, MATÉRIAUX et GÉOSCIENCES) Doctoral school.
