Description du sujet de thèse

Under the supervision of the project's scientific coordinator, you will contribute to analyzing the factors driving the evolution of the environmental footprint of the diets of French households, as well as the variability of this footprint between households

Contexte de travail

The PREFALIM project is recruiting a PhD student with training in economics and applied econometrics, who has experience in handling and managing large datasets, and in developing and using complex algorithms and econometric techniques.

Your responsibilities will include:

Testing, selecting, and improving various algorithms to automate the calculation of the average ingredient composition of food products purchased by French households. You will document these algorithms and make them available to the scientific community in the form of easily usable Stata or Python scripts, following the FAIR principles (Findability, Accessibility, Interoperability, and Reuse of digital assets).

Processing Kantar WorldPanel consumption data (2002–2023) to generate aggregated consumption statistics for comparison with public data sources (national accounts, Household Budget Survey).

Studying the social and economic factors that explain the observed gap between declared environmental concerns and revealed preferences through consumption choices (the “behavior-attitude gap”), the dynamics of this gap over the period 2011–2023, its role in social differences in the carbon footprint of household food baskets, and its implications for public policies regulating markets, particularly through labeling.

Contributing to the drafting and monitoring of the PREFALIM project's Data Management Plan.

Organizing the annual PREFALIM project meeting/conference at PSE. Drafting minutes of meetings and contributing to the communication of the PREFALIM project to the general public, to the PEPR Fair Carbon program, and to the ANR.

You will work within the CNRS research unit “Paris-Jourdan Sciences Economiques” (PjSE), affiliated with the Paris School of Economics (PSE).

Le poste se situe dans un secteur relevant de la protection du potentiel scientifique et technique (PPST), et nécessite donc, conformément à la réglementation, que votre arrivée soit autorisée par l'autorité compétente du MESR.
