Description du sujet de thèse

Electrocatalytic borohydride oxidation (BOR) is an interesting alternative to the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) at the anode for improving the energy efficiency of green H2 production in alkaline electrolyzers. It might reduce the energy cost of hydrogen production. This project proposes to promote BOR by modulating mass transfer conditions and optimizing the electrode/electrolyte interface. In particular, electrocatalysts based on non-precious metals and various electrolyte additives will be studied. Scanning electrochemical microscopy (SECM), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and the rotating disc electrode (RDE) will be applied to gain a deep mechanistic understanding. This PhD contract has been selected by the call UBC-CNRS PhD Joint Program 2025.

Contexte de travail

This work is to be conducted at LISE, a joint laboratory of CNRS and Sorbonne Université (SU) within an international environment. Located in downtown Paris, the LISE is well connected by Subway, Bus and Suburban train (RER). Additional funding will be available for covering mobility cost to visit the partner laboratory at University of British Columbia in Canada.

Contraintes et risques

The candidate will receive training in laboratory safety.
