Description of the thesis topic

Cycloadditions are key reactions for building complex molecular structures. 2-Pyrones are good partners for [4+2] cycloadditions, specifically for Diels-Alder cycloadditions with inverse electronic demand. We have recently developed an enantioselective inverse electronic demand Diels-Alder method between a 2-pyrone and an acyclic enol ether. The goal of this project will be to explore new partners for cycloadditions involving 2-pyrones. We will also study the functionalization of the cycloadducts resulting from these new reactions to access polycyclic molecules of interest.

Work Context

The PhD candidate will interact directly with their thesis supervisor (Dr. Aurélien DE LA TORRE) in the MSMT team (which will soon join the Organic Chemistry research axis) at the ICMMO, as well as with the entire team on a daily basis. They will regularly present their work during group meetings. All necessary equipment for synthesis, purification, and characterization of molecules is available within the Institute of Molecular Chemistry and Materials of Orsay. The candidate should have obtained a Master's degree in Organic Chemistry and be motivated to engage in an organic synthesis project. A strong command of classic organic synthesis techniques and analytical methods is required. The candidate should be organized, autonomous, possess good communication skills, and be a team player.

The position is located in a sector under the protection of scientific and technical potential (PPST), and therefore requires, in accordance with the regulations, that your arrival is authorized by the competent authority of the MESR.
