Description du sujet de thèse
The work of the candidate will be carried out within the CMS experiment at the CERN LHC. The successful candidate will work on measurements of the Higgs boson, as well as its background from other processes in the standard model of particle physics. The data collected during LHC runs 2 and 3 will be used for this analysis. The measurements will be interpreted in the context of an effective field theory (EFT). In parallel to this work, the candidate will be expected to contribute to technical aspects of the CMS experiment, for example the upgrade of the calorimeter for the high-luminosity LHC era, or particle reconstruction in the detector.
Contexte de travail
The work will take place in the context of the CMS group at the Laboratoire Leprince-Ringuet (LLR), which is made up of approximately 30 members working on Higgs boson physics, standard model physics, and beyond. Members of the group are also involved in the operation of the detector and on upgrade projects in view of the high-luminosity LHC.
Even though the usual work place will be in Palaiseau, regular travel to CERN, Geneva, is foreseen.
