Description of the thesis topic
Microtubules are a central component of the cytoskeleton and play a key role in intracellular transport. As such, they play an important role in nuclear positioning. Our team is studying, in a developmental context, how multiple microtubule networks cooperate to position the nucleus in large cells. To do this, we are using the Drosophila oocyte, a large polarised cell. The aim of this thesis project is to functionally characterise the microtubule networks that anchor the nucleus. The nucleus is enveloped in a cage of microtubules which presumably anchor it to the cell cortex; however, the general architecture and regulation of this network remain poorly characterised.
