Description du sujet de thèse

The aim of this study is to develop photoinitiators whose chromophore is based on an inorganic particle also used as a pickling stabiliser in emulsion photopolymerisation. This work is part of the ANR PhotoPick project. This project is a collaboration between Institut de Science des Matériaux de Mulhouse (IS2M) and the Catalyse Polymérisation Procédés et Matériaux (CP2M) and Laboratoire Hydrazines et Composés Energétiques polyazotés (LHCEP) laboratories in Lyon.
The subject of this project are :
- The synthesis and modification of Zn nanoparticles: a precipitation method is used to obtain 10 nm ZnO, which can be modified with organic acids in a second step. These particles are purified by centrifugation.
Open access article https://pubs.rsc.org/en/content/articlelanding/2015/nr/c5nr00850f
- The polymerisation of Pickering-stabilised latexes: The aim is to achieve surfactant-free radical polymerisation in dispersed media (emulsion and dispersion) using inorganic particles (InP) as solid stabilisers. These particle syntheses are based on a 'grafting from' approach, in which polymer chains grow simultaneously from an initiator anchored to the inorganic particle, simultaneously with 'free' chains (C).
The aim of this thesis is to synthesise particles with different modifications, transfer the system to water and test and develop routines for polymerising latexes stabilised by pickering.
Skills required: teamwork, presentation of results, polymer science, materials chemistry, implementation and characterisation of particles, polymers and composites, English (B2 level minimum).

Contexte de travail

This thesis will be carried out at the Institut de Science des Matériaux de Mulhouse (IS2M) - a joint CNRS-Université de Haute-Alsace research unit (UMR 7361), the thesis will be associated with the Université de Haute-Alsace-Université de Strasbourg Doctoral School (ED182). Thanks to its multi-disciplinary nature, its scientific influence and its interactions with other fields, the laboratory is one of the key players in the field of materials and their applications in the academic and industrial world, at regional, national and international level. IS2M owes its reputation to the excellence of its research, the scientific reputation of its researchers and teacher-researchers and the professionalism of its research support staff. This thesis will be carried out in the IS2M's PM2P Molecular PhotoChemistry and PhotoPolymerisation group, headed by Prof. Jacques Lalevée. The general objective of the PHotoChimie Moléculéraire et PhotoPolymérisation (PM2P) axis is to advance knowledge in the field of materials, and more specifically here of bio-based and recyclable materials.
