Description du sujet de thèse
The objective of the PEPR UPBEAT project is to produce K-ion batteries combining: i) energy density, ii) power density, iii) abundance of the constituent elements of the electrode materials (without Co, Ni and Li), iv) lower cost (compared to Li-ion), to envisage industrial development at the end of the project. This doctoral thesis will specifically concern negative electrodes based on graphite and hard carbon, supplied by IS2M. The objective is to improve the performance of these electrodes in K-ion batteries, versus positive electrodes based on Prussian Blue, thanks to an optimized electrode and electrolyte formulations. Particular attention will be paid to the choice of the electrolyte in collaboration with the CEA. Understanding the electrochemical and aging mechanisms will be at the heart of the thesis work, thanks to the use of multiple, complementary characterization techniques, most often in operando mode.

Contexte de travail
This thesis will take place at the ICGM in Montpellier, in the Batteries group of the Department of Chemistry of Materials, Nanostructures, Materials for Energy (D4), in strong interaction with the IS2M (Mulhouse), and the other partners of the PEPR UPBEAT project consortium: the ICMCB (Bordeaux) and 2 teams from the CEA (DRT, Grenoble, Pessac).
Le poste se situe dans un secteur relevant de la protection du potentiel scientifique et technique (PPST), et nécessite donc, conformément à la réglementation, que votre arrivée soit autorisée par l'autorité compétente du MESR.
Contraintes et risques
The project poses no risks or constraints. The project requires strong motivation, a high degree of autonomy, and a strong interest in materials chemistry and electrochemistry on the part of the candidate (M/F). Experience in electrochemistry is desirable. The majority of the thesis will be carried out in Montpellier, with travel to Mulhouse (IS2M) and Grenoble (CEA).
