Description of the thesis topic

The research scientist will be located in the laboratory Catalysis, Polymerization , Processes and Materials (CP2M, UMR 5128) in cotutelle with the Laboratory of Automatic Control, Chemical and Pharmaceutical Engineering (LAGEPP – UMR5007). His/her research work will be part of the joint laboratory ChemistLab involving the tire company Michelin. The project tackles the design and the development of a polymerization process of a new class of thermoplastic elastomers (TPE) able to meet future challenges in tire performance and sustainable mobility. Olefin and 1,3-diene based TPE will be considered by combining catalytic and anionic polymerization strategies.

Work Context

Since many years, Michelin, the laboratory Catalysis, Polymerization and Processes and Materials (CP2M, UMR 5128) have conducted a series of collaborative programs and have recently launched (June 1st 2019) a joint laboratory ChemistLab for the synthesis of new elastomers by coordination catalysis and the study of associated mechanisms. The candidate will be working in the laboratory CP2M in Villeurbanne. He (She) will be benefiting of pluridisciplinary research program and will be involved in a team of academic and industrial researchers in the framework of the joint laboratory ChemistLab. This project has received financial support from the CNRS through the MITI interdisciplinary programs

Constraints and risks

Some meetings will occur at Michelin research center in Clermont-Ferrand.

Additional Information

A master degree or a diploma of a French Engineering School (or equivalent) is requested with a chemistry specialization and knowledge in organometallic chemistry. Skills in Chemical engineering and Physico-chemistry of polymers will be appreciated.
