Job Description
Summary of the scientific project
The overall objective of this project is to strengthen the CNRS's activities in the fields of robotics, control systems, and AI. It aims to develop autonomous systems that interact with humans and are equipped with “embedded intelligence,” enabling them to operate reliably in unstructured and unpredictable environments. Key areas of focus include:
- Developing new control approaches and architectures for autonomous systems (vehicles or robots, including drones) that take human factors into account, including the development of observers and estimators that utilize available data.
- Perceiving and understanding situations in open and dynamic environments, managing uncertainties and ensuring the integrity of the physical system and its environment (operational safety)
- Planning trajectories and spatial mapping (SLAM).
Summary of the teaching project
The successful candidate's work will be integrated into the academic programs at the University of Technology of Compiègne or the Hauts-de-France Polytechnic University through their specialized science and technology programs.

Host Lab Strategy
LAMIH is a joint research unit between the Université Polytechnique Hauts-de-France (UPHF) and the CNRS, specializing in transportation and human mobility: zero-emission vehicles, intelligent transportation, driver assistance, eco-driving, development of onboard systems, lightweight structures, transportation logistics, mobility for all, and smart mobility.
The HEUDIASYC laboratory, a joint UTC-CNRS unit, conducts research in the field of information and digital sciences, including computer science, control systems, robotics, and artificial intelligence. Its scientific project focuses on mobility and transportation through the development of embedded systems designed to enhance the autonomy of mobile robots operating in open and complex environments, capable of interacting with human operators or with other robots. It has also been collaborating with Renault through a joint laboratory since 2017.
Institution Strategy
Autonomous and interactive systems are one of the CNRS's priority thematic areas of the in the digital field, focusing on the challenges of developing new approaches that more closely integrate interactions between autonomous systems and humans. These interactions range from physical or cognitive interaction and shared decision-making to accounting for behavioral factors. These approaches still present many open challenges.

Research Policy
Open Science
The CNRS is developing a strong policy in favor of open science. Open science consists of making research results "as accessible as possible and closed as necessary". As such, the CNRS aims to make 100% of the texts of publications resulting from the work of its laboratories accessible , in particular through deposit in HAL. The data produced must also be made available and reusable, except for specific restrictions. In addition, the guiding principles of individual evaluation have been revised in accordance with the DORA declaration, to be more qualitative and to take into account all facets of the researcher's profession.
Science and society
The relationship between science and society is now recognized as a full dimension of scientific activity. The project will develop this dimension in synergy with all the partners. The resulting research work will contribute to informing public decision-making. Participatory science initiatives may be initiated with actors from the project’s socio-economic and cultural eco-system.
Scientific dissemination
The dissemination of the results will be done through world-class scientific productions: publications, patents, software... In addition, the results will be communicated to various targets such as scientific communities, media, decision makers, general public, schools, etc., with an adapted calendar. Specific tools may be developed such as websites, newsletters, meetings, international symposia, summer schools and conferences.
