Stratégie d'établissement
Given climate change, the capture and valorization of small molecules and the capture of water in the air constitute important challenges for simple and clean chemistry as part of the necessary energy transition. The objective of this project is therefore to contribute to energy sobriety and the protection of scarce resources. The valorization of molecules such as CO2 and N2 is currently very energy-demanding and current processes require breakthrough to improve their efficiency. Valorizing CO2 and N2 into methanol/formate/CO and NH3 for example, allows in the first case to reduce the quantity of CO2 and also to prepare new molecules for industry from chemical intermediates. In the case of CO2, one major objective is to capture it in the air using suitable nanoporous materials. Concerning NH3, an important challenge is to find ecological routes for its synthesis in order to be able to use it as an energy vector. Furthermore, the lack of drinking water is one of the major challenges of climate change. The search for low-cost materials for capturing water from the air and releasing on demand constitutes one of the ways that would make it possible to obtain drinking water in regions which lack water, just like the improvement of processes allowing pollutants to be captured in effluents leading to circular use. The CNRS and the Universities are committed to responding to these very important societal challenges and strengthening the teams in these areas will allow us to remain in international competition and contribute to the evolution of uses and practices to guarantee economic development that respects the environment.
Stratégie du laboratoire d'accueil
The four targeted laboratories (in alphabetical order: CEMHTI, ICGM, IMAP, IRCELYON) have teams recognized in the field of capture and transformation of small molecules. For each of them, strengthening the theme covered by this project will help to enable France's visibility internationally in this area.
Stratégie Internationale
The number of members of the scientific community active in the field of understanding the elementary processes involved in the capture and transformation of small molecules with a view to their valorization deserves to be strengthened given the importance of these themes, both with regard to the energy transition and sustainable development. The discovery of new reaction paths or new processes will have a resounding scientific impact but also a major socio-economic impact both in the field of exploiting new energy vectors and the synthesis of fuels that do not use fossil resources or even a reasoned and economical use of water. Concentrating forces, and increasing skills in this area, require not only appropriate training in universities, but also the recruitment of talented scientists already experienced in this exercise. Recruiting a talented young researcher trained abroad is made easier by the CPJ system, which is attractive and will provide the laureate with a suitable environment to begin its project. This project should also make it possible to promote networking in a community that seems a little scattered to date. Strengthening this theme of national and European interest should facilitate the creation of European networks in the field in the short term.

Résumé du projet scientifique
Designing and implementing new processes for capturing and transforming small molecules is at the heart of this project. The action of this project aims to promote energy sobriety and the protection of rare resources. The valorization of molecules like CO2 and N2, currently very energy-demanding, will become significant if we can propose breakthroughs that improve yields. Other interesting avenues concern the accelerated condensation of water in the atmosphere and its restitution on demand or the purification of water to make its use circular. This project will preferably include an experimental component but the use of modeling, making it possible to better target experiments and/or to use available databases, may constitute an asset or an interesting alternative.
Résumé du projet d'enseignement
The research theme of this CNRS chair could be applied in the different universities targeted in the region depending on the location of recruitment. The laureate could in particular contribute to teaching in materials sciences, electrochemistry, chemical kinetics at the bachelor's or master's level.

Diffusion scientifique
The dissemination of the results will be done through world-class scientific productions: publications, patents, software... In addition, the results will be communicated to various targets such as scientific communities, media, decision makers, general public, schools, etc., with an adapted calendar. Specific tools may be developed such as websites, newsletters, meetings, international symposia, summer schools and conferences.
Science ouverte
The CNRS is developing a strong policy in favor of open science. Open science consists of making research results "as accessible as possible and closed as necessary". As such, the CNRS aims to make 100% of the texts of publications resulting from the work of its laboratories accessible , in particular through deposit in HAL. The data produced must also be made available and reusable, except for specific restrictions. In addition, the guiding principles of individual evaluation have been revised in accordance with the DORA declaration, to be more qualitative and to take into account all facets of the researcher's profession.
Science et société
The relationship between science and society is now recognized as a full dimension of scientific activity. The project will develop this dimension in synergy with all the partners. The resulting research work will contribute to informing public decision-making. Participatory science initiatives may be initiated with actors from the project’s socio-economic and cultural eco-system.
Indicateurs
The activity will be evaluated in particular on the basis of scientific production (publications, software, patents, etc.), on institutional and private partnerships formalized by contracts, on international presence, on the promotion of work to multidisciplinary scientific communities, on innovation and its transfer to society and on scientific dissemination to non-specialist audiences.
