Missions

The context and desired contribution of this post-doctoral position is to contribute to the development of anticipatory capabilities in cognitive and interactive robots. These capabilities will be implemented to enable an assistant robot to be proactive, to choose what and when to communicate, or to elicit or facilitate a human decision or action.

This work will be based on previous work and contributions from LAAS-CNRS in cognitive and interactive robotics. This includes planning and reactive planning of tasks and movements, as well as theory of mind and estimation of the human mental state. The extent to which foundation models can be integrated into the architecture will be studied, both in terms ofsituation assessment and tracking and deliberative abilities. .

Activités

This work will take place at the LAAS-CNRS in Toulouse. It will include
1) A study of the state of the art of anticipation in robotics and interactive AI both at the level of reasoning about mental states and about decisions
2) The development and implementation of illustrative HRI scenarios

Compétences

- PhD in robotics and AI, human-robot interaction, cognitive robotics or closely related fields.
- Excellent academic record with publications
- Very good ablities in English, both written and spoken
- Solid knowledge in one of the following areas: AI, planning, human-robot interaction
- Strong robot programming skills
- Ability to analyse and improve algorithms
- Ability to work in a team with other researchers

Knowledge of systems and tools such as ROS, Linux and Git is a must.

Contexte de travail

This position is funded as part of the AS3 action (Decision, learning and social interaction) of the PEPR O2R project (see: https://www.pepr-o2r.fr/) ) for one year, renewable. It is open to a highly motivated candidate with excellent experience in human-robot interaction and cognitive robotics.

The successful candidate will work mainly with Rachid Alami (https://homepages.laas.fr/rachid/) but also with members of the LAAS-RIS team (https://www.laas.fr/en/teams/ris/) and other researchers involved in the project.

The position is open for recruitment from July 2025 or a later date to be negotiated. Applications will be examined as they are received.
