Activities

- Multi-sensor calibration and synchronization
- Implementation of the data capture protocol
- Testing in different environments (indoor/outdoor smoke, with or without wind, different lighting conditions and different backgrounds (uniform or textured, static or dynamic)
- Formatting data for integration into a reconstruction and prediction method
- Study of the Sim2Real gap and development of the method for portability to real data

Skills

Master's degree in engineering sciences applied to robotics and computer science. Skills in Python/C++ programming and use of ROS. Knowledge of machine learning would also be appreciated for this position.

Work Context

This position takes place within ANR “Fireflies” project, which aims to study the modeling of smoke plumes. Fires (forest or industrial) are a complex phenomenon to model, due to the number of factors to be taken into account (external conditions such as wind or humidity, interactions with the environment, nature of the fuel, etc.) . Observing and modeling smoke is crucial to better understanding the phenomenon and its consequences. The goal is to set up a low-cost data collection system using camera and Lidar sensors. The candidate will work in collaboration with the RIS team, which develops methods for 3D reconstruction and smoke prediction based on synthetic data. The objective is to apply these methods to real data. The candidate will be welcomed into the RIS team and will be integrated into the Fireflies project led by ENAC and LAAS.

The position is located in a sector under the protection of scientific and technical potential (PPST), and therefore requires, in accordance with the regulations, that your arrival is authorized by the competent authority of the MESR.
