Job Description
Missions
The successful candidate will be responsible for the theoretical component of the project. Their work will primarily involve first-principles electronic-structure calculations to characterize the altermagnetic properties of the materials under investigation and determine how these properties evolve with parameters such as chemical doping and structural distortions.
They will also develop and implement effective models incorporating spin dynamics to study magnetic excitations and their experimental signatures.
In addition, the postdoctoral researcher will calculate observables that can be directly compared with measurements, contribute to the interpretation of experimental results, and maintain close interaction with the experimental partners involved in the project.
Activity
* Perform first-principles electronic-structure calculations to characterize the altermagnetic properties of the materials studied.
* develop models incorporating spin dynamics and calculate magnetic excitations.
* compare theoretical predictions with experimental results, in collaboration with the teams involved in the project.
* analyze, present, and disseminate the results through publications and conferences.
Your Profil
Skills
* PhD in physics, preferably in condensed-matter physics or materials science.
* experience with first-principles calculations, particularly density functional theory (DFT).
* experience in developing and using effective models parameterized from ab initio calculations.
* ability to work independently and collaboratively, with good scientific communication skills.
Your Work Environment
Institut NÉEL is a CNRS unit (UPR 2940) under agreement with the University Grenoble Alpes. The laboratory is related to the CNRS Physique. It is located in Grenoble, in the heart of a unique scientific, industrial and cultural environment. It is one of the largest French national research institutes for fundamental research in condensed matter physics enriched by interdisciplinary activities at the interfaces with chemistry, engineering and biology. It consists of 450 employees, including 175 researchers.
CNRS is a public, scientific and technological organization.
The core mandate is to identify, to carry out or to have carried out, either alone or with partners, all research that advances science or contributes to the country's economic, social, and cultural progress. Internationally recognized for the excellence of its scientific research, the CNRS is a reference in the world of research and development, as well as for the general public.
The hosting team at Institut Néel is: TMC - Condensed Matter Theory, which forms part of the MCBT department.
