General information

Offer title : Post-doc: Experimentalist in condensed matter physics (M/F) (H/F)
Reference : UPR2940-ELOBER-112
Number of position : 1
Workplace : GRENOBLE
Date of publication : 03 October 2024
Type of Contract : FTC Scientist
Contract Period : 24 months
Expected date of employment : 1 January 2025
Proportion of work : Full time
Remuneration : Between 2991,58 € and 3417,33 € gross monthly, according to experience
Desired level of education : Niveau 8 - (Doctorat)
Experience required : 1 to 4 years
Section(s) CN : Condensed matter: electronic properties and structures

Missions

His main task will be to set up the experimental protocol and carry out the measurements required to the advance of the project. Instrumental developments may be envisaged in order to optimise existing measurements. He will discuss the results with the whole team involved in the project and will be a driving force behind the cohesion of the project.

Activities

The candidate will study the physical properties of 'Kagome' compounds in order to gain a better understanding of the physical mechanisms leading to the emergence of a superconducting phase in the presence of competing orders. This will be based on thermodynamic (specific heat) and/or spectroscopic (Ramen effect, electronic spectroscopy) measurements.

Skills

- The candidate must hold a PhD in condensed matter physics.
- He must have solid experience in experimental physics under extreme cryogenic conditions.
- A good knowledge of the physics of 'Kagome' systems is desirable.

Work Context

This work will be carried out within the 'MagSup' team of the 'Condensed Matter and Low Temperatures' department of the Institut Néel, CNRS-Grenoble. The Institut Néel is a CNRS unit (UPR2940) specialised in the study of the physical properties of solids, located in the Grenoble science park.
The laboratory is related to the CNRS Physique. It is located in the heart of a unique scientific, industrial and cultural environment. It is one of the largest French national research institutes for fundamental research in condensed matter physics enriched by interdisciplinary activities at the interfaces with chemistry, engineering and biology. It consists of 450 employees, including 175 researchers.

The position is located in a sector under the protection of scientific and technical potential (PPST), and therefore requires, in accordance with the regulations, that your arrival is authorized by the competent authority of the MESR.

Constraints and risks

This is a standard experimental physics activity at very low temperatures, and presents no specific risks.
