Job Description
Missions
Within IBMP (CNRS UPR 2357), the successful candidate will carry out their activities within the mRNA Dynamics in Plants research team under the supervision of the team leader. They will contribute to projects aimed at deciphering the mechanisms coordinating mRNA translation and degradation in eukaryotic systems. In particular, they will participate in the characterization of a novel mRNA degradation mechanism recently identified by the team. The candidate will employ molecular cloning, molecular biology, and biochemical approaches to test and address the various hypotheses underlying the project.
Activity
- Implement and optimize cloning and genome-editing approaches for the generation of transgenic lines in various eukaryotic systems (Arabidopsis thaliana, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Schizosaccharomyces pombe, and others).
- Develop and carry out cloning strategies for the production of recombinant proteins.
- Prepare Illumina sequencing (NGS) libraries, particularly for 5′P-seq and Ribo-seq applications.
- Perform experiments involving RNA and proteins, including Western blotting and mRNA cleavage assays.
- Analyze experimental results and contribute to their interpretation.
- Participate in the scientific and technical activities of the laboratory.
- Contribute to the supervision and training of undergraduate and/or graduate interns.
Your Profil
Skills
The candidates should:
- Have expertise in molecular biology, particularly in cloning techniques (Gateway, Golden Gate).
- Have expertise in RNA biology, including RNA extraction, RT-PCR, and qPCR.
- Have knowledge of high-throughput sequencing library preparation methods, particularly 5′P-seq and Ribo-seq.
- Have expertise in protein biochemistry, including polysome profiling, IP-MS, and recombinant protein purification.
- Demonstrate a high level of experimental rigor and strong organizational skills.
- Possess excellent scientific English communication skills (C1 level), both written and spoken.
Your Work Environment
The successful candidate will be based at the Institute of Plant Molecular Biology of Strasbourg (IBMP, CNRS UPR 2357), an internationally recognized research institute specializing in plant molecular biology. They will join the mRNA Dynamics in Plants research team, which focuses on the study of mRNA biology.
The project will benefit from access to state-of-the-art facilities in microscopy, high-throughput sequencing, and proteomics. The institute is located on the University of Strasbourg campus, which is easily accessible by public transportation and offers on-site university dining facilities.
The successful candidate will join a dynamic and collaborative research environment and will have the opportunity to contribute to innovative projects investigating the fundamental mechanisms of gene expression in eukaryotes. The host team develops complementary approaches in genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry, and functional genomics to study mRNA fate and regulation in eukaryotic systems.
The position is available for a fixed term of 13 months.
