Missions

The recruited research assistant will be responsible for providing technical and conceptual support to the MASS metabolomics platform of the institute (IBMP) for the detection and quantification of plant hormones (such as gibberellins, auxins, and other phytohormones). The postholder (M/F) will apply methods for the preparation of plant samples and the separation and analysis of phytohormones by ultra-high performance liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS triple quadrupole). The postholder will also propose and develop new protocols to optimize the extraction and/or analysis of hormone precursors or catabolites that are in low abundance, or extracted from limited amounts of plant material.

Activités

-Extraction and purification of plant hormones
-Handling of labelled analytical standards
-Injection of samples into a UHPLC coupled to an EVOQ LC-TQ Elite MS/MS spectrometer (Bruker)
-Analysis of plant hormone profiles using Xcalibur and TraceFinder applications
-Drafting methods and data reports

Compétences

The candidate must have:
- a degree in biology, biochemistry or analytical chemistry
- an expertise in metabolite analysis using LC-MS
- the ability to propose and develop new analytical methods
- the ability to organize and manage several activities simultaneously
- an aptitude for teamwork in order to share knowledge and, reciprocally, to integrate advice from other team members
- the ability to write scientific reports and documents
-English language: B1 to B2 (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)

Contexte de travail

The postholder will work at the Institut de biologie moléculaire des plantes (IBMP). The IBMP is the largest CNRS institute dedicated to plant biology, located on the campus Esplanade of the University of Strasbourg, near the historic city center. The IBMP conducts cutting-edge research aimed at addressing challenges in nutrition, health and the environment through the study of fundamental processes in plant life. The engineer recruited will work under the supervision of Patrick Achard (CNRS Research Director), who studies the role of gibberellins in plant development and adaptation to fluctuating environmental conditions, in close collaboration with the MASS metabolomics platform led by Emmanuel Gaquerel (Professor at the University of Strasbourg) and Hubert Schaller (CNRS Research Director), and the engineers already working in the laboratory. The initial fixed-term contract is for 12 months.
The postholder will have an office space with a computer and a suitable technical environment. The IBMP is accessible by public transport. On-site cycle parking facilities and staff catering.
