Missions

Part of the research engineer's mission will be dedicated to the InCa platform (Interfacial Characterisation) at the Institut Charles Sadron (40% of the time). He or she will take part in measurement, analysis, and training activities.
The second part of the mission concerns a research project focused on polymer foams (60% of the time). This project aims to understand how the distribution of solid material between cell walls and struts can be controlled, measured, and related to the thermal and mechanical properties of the foams. Several formulations and systems will be studied in parallel to shed light on these three issues.

Activities

* Involvement in the various activities of the InCa platform: tensiometry, interfacial rheology, etc.
* Generation of polymer foams of different types
* Tomography and electron microscopy for morphological characterization
* Mechanical and thermal analysis of the foams

Skills

* Experience in the chemistry and physical chemistry of polymer foams
* Expertise in colloid and interface science
* Willingness to learn new techniques and to interact with physicists

Work Context

The activities of this position are embedded within the research work of the MIM team at the Institut Charles Sadron (ICS), located on the CNRS campus in Strasbourg. The ICS is a leading CNRS research institute in Strasbourg dedicated to advancing fundamental and applied science on polymers, soft matter, and complex materials through interdisciplinary physics, chemistry, and materials research (about 100 permanent staff). In addition, the engineer will work part-time on the InCa platform of the MIM team, an internationally unique environment for the characterization of complex liquid interfaces. The recruited person will join a dynamic research group working on related topics, fostering scientific exchange and collaboration.
The site has an on-campus university restaurant and is easily accessible by public transport.
