Applications based on mid-infrared radiation have progressed at a very rapid pace in recent years.
A crucial feature for most photonic systems is the ability to electrically modulate the amplitude and/or phase of a beam at speeds on the order of GHz or more.
The host team recently developed an ultra-fast modulator demonstrator, following an idea that we patented in France and which is now being extended internationally.

The work consists in improving the performances of these infrared modulators, thanks to a devices fabrication that also considers the RF functionalities. The activity will be mainly in the clean room, but experience in the design of semiconductor devices and/or RF technology is welcome.


The activity mainly concerns the cleanroom fabrication of modulators.
More specifically, it is micro/nano-fabrication in cleanroom of III-V optoelectronic devices, that are furthermore compatible with RF applications.

This project will mainly involve:
- design of lithographic masks for devices
- Manufacture in a clean room of the devices (lithography, engraving, metallic evaporation, etc.)
- Electrical pre-characterization of the devices

The design of the components will be performed by the host team, but expertise in device design is welcome.


This research project is closely linked to technology transfer.
The candidate should have strong skills in micro/nano-fabrication in cleanroom of semiconductor optoelectronic devices.

The perspective candidate will have the following skills:
- Holder of a doctorate
- Experience in clean room manufacturing processes
- A history of high quality scientific publications

Work Context

The activity will take place at the Center for Nanosciences and Nanotechnology, on the Plateau de Saclay.

The Center for Nanosciences and Nanotechnologies (C2N) is a joint research between CNRS and the University of Paris Saclay and the University of Paris Cité.
C2N staff is around 410 people. It is located in Ile de France in Palaiseau (91) at the heart of the Paris Saclay campus.
The C2N is structured around four scientific departments (photonics, materials, nanoelectronics, microsystems & nanobiofluidics).
This position is within the photonics department. This position requires access to the clean room.
