Job Description
Missions
Exfoliated indium telluride (InTe) is an emerging layered semiconductor characterized by an anisotropic crystalstructure and quasi-one-dimensional ribbon-like morphology. Its electronic structure is predicted to host relatively flat bands associated with the reduced dimensionality and anisotropic bonding environment, potentially, enhancing the density of states near specific energy ranges. Despite its promising electronic properties, InTe has received limited attention in the context of 2D heterointerfaces . We propose in this project to study the combination of the well-konwn monolayer WS2 with bulk exfoliated InTe therefore as model for hybrid 2D/quasi-1D system. Here the isotropic in-plane electronic structure of a 2D direct-gap semiconductor is interfaced with the anisotropic, flat-band–influenced electronic landscape of a quasi-1D material. These dimensional and electronic contrasts offer unique possibilities to investigate band alignment and charge redistribution at the atomically flat surface of the van der Waals heterojunction. Angle Resolved Photoelectron Spectroscopy (ARPES) will be primarily used to map the Brillouin zone for each material, separately and over their interface, to quantify the charge transfer, band bending, and possible hybridization.
Activity
* Fabrication of WS2/InTe van der Waals heterostructures by mechanical transfer and assembly
* Angle Resolved Photoelectron Spectroscopy (ARPES) on 2D materials
*Optical characterization of 2D materials using Raman spectroscopy, photoluminescence (PL), and Second Harmonic Generation (SHG)
Your Profil
Skills
- Ability to work independently and organize activities with weekly reporting
- Teamwork, interacting with doctoral students in the laboratory
- In-depth knowledge of van der Waals heterostructure fabrication by transfer techniques
- In-depth knowledge of Angle Resolved Photoelectron Spectroscopy
- Full command of scientific English (written, spoken)
- knowledge of Raman, photoluminescence, and SHG optical characterization of 2D materials would be approciated
Your Work Environment
The work will be carried out in the clean room of the Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (C2N) in Palaiseau (France). The C2N is a joint research unit between Paris Saclay University and the French National Center for Scientific Research, comprising approximately 200 researchers and 200 doctoral and postdoctoral students.
