Job Description

Missions

The successful candidate will contribute to the research project 'The work of the counterpart – a study of the 15 hours of compulsory activities for RSA recipients in three departments', which forms part of the research programme 'Transformations in social work and social intervention' funded by Drees-Mire, the Cnaf and the National Institute of Social Work. The research's scientific steering committee comprises two academics, Maud Simonet (IDHE.S, CNRS) and John Krinsky (CUNY), and three representatives from non-profit organisations: Marion Ducasse (Aequitaz), Celina Whitaker (Aequitaz) and Sophie Rigard (Secours Catholique).

The aims of the research are to analyse what changes the introduction of 15 to 20 hours of compulsory work in return for benefits – as part of the implementation of the Full Employment Act passed on 18th December 2023 – brings about, how these changes manifest, and to what extent, in the work of benefit recipients and the case workers who support them.

The successful candidate will work closely with members of the research team. They will focus in particular on the employment policies for recipients of the RSA in the Savoie department and on the use of the 15 hours of activities within this framework.

Activity

- Map the ecosystem of public institutions, businesses and organisations responsible for these policies, and analyse their links to local and national labour markets;
- Conduct, either alone or in pairs with team members, interviews with representatives of these organisations and the professionals working there, and, where possible, carry out participant observation of local bodies and schemes for integration or access to employment (workshops, work placements, work experience placements, etc.) for RSA recipients;
- Collect quantitative data on access to employment and the integration of RSA recipients into the various support pathways defined by the Full Employment Act (types of employment, as well as the services and schemes utilised and the economic sectors involved);
- Contribute to the analysis and drafting of the final research report;
- Contribute to the drafting of publications;
- Help organise a study day during 2027.

Your Profil

Skills

- The ability to carry out qualitative research in the field of the sociology of work, employment and/or social policy (interviews, observations);
- A good understanding of the public employment service and the reforms introduced by the Full Employment Act, as well as a command of quantitative methods, would be an advantage but are not essential;
- Ability to develop data collection tools (questionnaires, interviews, case studies, field observations, monographs, etc.);
- Ability to work as part of a team and to report on one's work;
- Commitment to confidentiality.

Your Work Environment

IDHE.S is a multi-affiliated (CNRS/UPN/Paris 1/Paris 8/EVRY/ENS PARIS SACLAY) and multi-site laboratory in the Humanities and Social Sciences, bringing together more than 200 staff members. The post is based at the University of Paris Nanterre.
The successful candidate will be a member of IDHE.S-Nanterre. They will be able to participate in the laboratory's activities and will have an office on site.
They will report directly to the unit Director, Ms. Valérie BOUSSARD, and functionally to the scientific lead for the research contract, Ms. Maud SIMONET, working in collaboration with the entire research team.

This is a full-time post, 20 per cent of which is dedicated to the dissemination of the PhD thesis or other previous research.
