Missions

As part of a project funded by the Hauts-de-France region, the IEMN aims to develop next-generation ultrafast photodetectors with high saturation current, featuring parallel optical pumping optimized for operation with 1060 nm or 1550 nm wavelength lasers. This project is of great importance due to the wide range of potential applications of these devices, including optical telecommunications, future submillimeter-wave wireless communication systems, and ultra-wideband spectroscopy from millimeter-wave to mid-infrared frequencies.

Activités

The Research Engineer will be responsible for the design, fabrication, and electro-optical characterization of the photodetectors. Specifically, they will:
• Design semiconductor structures using semiconductor device design software (SILVACO).
• Create lithography mask layouts using CAD tools.
• Perform cleanroom processing steps (resist coating, electron/optical lithography, metallization, PVD deposition, plasma etching).
• Characterize samples during fabrication (AFM, profilometer, optical and electron microscopy, electrical characterization).
• Characterize the electro-optical response of the final devices (photoresponse, electrical cutoff frequency).
To achieve these objectives, the recruited engineer will rely on the technological expertise of the team and the support of cleanroom staff.

Compétences

The ideal candidate should have:
• Strong knowledge of semiconductor physics and optoelectronic devices.
• Solid experience in semiconductor device fabrication in a cleanroom environment, including all technological steps necessary for semiconductor device manufacturing. Prior experience in fabricating semiconductor devices (MEMS, diodes, photodetectors, transistors, etc.) is essential.
• Experience in ultrafast optoelectronic device characterization and experimental setup automation (using LabVIEW, Python) would be a plus

Contexte de travail

This position is within the THz Photonics Group at the Institute of Electronics, Microelectronics, and Nanotechnology (IEMN, https://www.iemn.fr/), located near the University of Lille campus. The engineer will collaborate with the technical staff of the cleanroom and the characterization platform under the supervision of Emilien Peytavit.

Le poste se situe dans un secteur relevant de la protection du potentiel scientifique et technique (PPST), et nécessite donc, conformément à la réglementation, que votre arrivée soit autorisée par l'autorité compétente du MESR.
