Missions

The project aims to design CMOS integrated circuits for in-memory computing, in a context of distributed artificial intelligence with ultra-low power consumption. Unlike cloud-based systems, our approach consists of designing smaller-scale processing units to identify characteristics locally on a limited amount of data. The circuits designed will enable very low power consumption thanks to the use of advanced CMOS technologies. Targeted classification applications include: audio event recognition, motion detection in IoT sensors, context detection, and intelligent driving. More specifically, the Edge AI circuits studied are based on the principle of in-memory computing (IMC) to perform accurate inference in sensors. This solves the problem of energy-intensive data movement by introducing processing directly into memory.

Activités

Study and design of a compute-in-memory integrated circuit

Compétences

Potential candidates must: • Hold an engineering degree or PhD in electronics or equivalent; • Have expertise in high-level modeling tools or languages (Matlab, Simulink, Verilog-AMS, HDL, C, etc.), and knowledge of circuit design using the Cadence suite; • Have experience in PCB design and electronic test bench design • Be fluent in English (spoken and written); • Be able to work independently and take initiative;

Contexte de travail

The work will be carried out within the IEMN's integrated circuit design group in Lille, France, in collaboration with STMicroelectronics. The research team has acquired expertise in the design of low-power integrated circuits for energy-efficient embedded machine learning in advanced CMOS technologies over several years. The team also conducts cutting-edge national and international projects in the field of Near Sensor Computing.
