The goal of the project is to study small regulatory RNAs in the Gram-positive model bacterium Bacillus subtilis. One of the sRNAs studied in the lab is RoxS, the only sRNA conserved between B. subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus and involved in the oxidative stress response. The Post-doctoral fellow will be in charge of identifying new targets of RoxS, new RNA chaperones involved its regulation, and how RoxS can interfere with gene expression in B. subtilis. He or she will also be in charge of characterizing new sRNAs.
- Analysis of RNAseq and proteomics data,
- In vitro translation,
- Northern blot
- Primer extension
- Publication of one or more joint articles on the analyses of the data collected during the project
- Presentation at international conference
The successful candidate should hold a doctorate in microbiology or Molecular biology, have a solid knowledge in molecular biology, microbiology, RNA techniques (Northern blot), should be rigorous and organized with the ability to take initiative, and should be eager to learn new methods. A knowledge in RNAseq analysis will be an asset. He/she should also be fluent in English (written and spoken).
The position is at the Institute of Biologie Physico-Chimique (IBPC) in Paris. 5 units form this institute. The post-doctoral fellow will join the MAD group (Maturation And Degradation of RNA) belonging to the “Microbial Gene Expression” unit (UMR 8261) headed by Ciarán Condon. The work will be supervised by Sylvain Durand in the context of the ANR project BaRR.
IBPC has several on-site platforms : Cristallography, NMR, Mass-Spectrometry and Bioinformatics which may be useful for the completion of the project.
