Missions
The ESA JUICE (Jupiter Icy Moon Explorer) spacecraft is on its way to Jupiter with several planned flybys of Earth. They will be used to calibrate its instruments. The JENRAGE (Jovian Environment Radio Astronomy and Ganymede Exploration) experiment of the JUICE RPWI (Radio and Plasma Waves Investigation) experiment suite has been designed to study the low frequency radio emissions of Jupiter. The observation of Auroral Kilometric Radiation (AKR) of Earth will be our primary source of calibration (effective antenna lengths and directions).
Activités
The proposed work for this position concerns the development of the calibration pipeline as well as the goniopolarimetric (flux, direction, and polarisation) data inversion for the JENRAGE experiment. In addition, the calibrated datasets will be studied to analyse the AKR events using the JENRAGE goniopolarimetric capabilities, together with simultaneous observations from other JUICE instruments, as well as other spacecraft orbiting the magnetosphere of Earth (e.g.,, Wind or Arase). The proposed work will also include some validation work of high data level products to be distributed on the Auroral Planetary Imaging and Spectroscopy (APIS) service operated by the Observatory of Paris and Pythéas.
Compétences
The candidate shall have experience in low frequency space radio astronomy data analysis, data processing, and data calibration.
Contexte de travail
The main work location will be in Meudon (LIRA, Observatoire de Paris). Close collaboration with the team in Marseille (LAM, Aix-Marseille Université) will require to interact and possibly travel from Paris to Marseille regularly. The teams in Meudon and Marseille are expert in the domain, and includes a co-PI of the JUICE/RPWI instrument.
