Missions

1. Investigate the gap between existing “idealistic” computational methods and available “realistic” pathogen genomic data, and asses how it limits potential health-related insights or even leads to erroneous ones.
2. Bridge this gap from the methods side by designing phylodynamic and phylogeographic models and methods that account for real data peculiarities (e.g., sampling heterogeneity).
3. Bridge this gap from the data side by developing sampling guidelines on where and when to sample pathogen genomes in priority.

• Development of new mathematical models ;
• Development of computational methods and their implementation as open-source software ;
• Scientific writing ;
• Scientific communication ;
• Supervision of interns.

Contexte de travail

The postdoc will join the Modelling of Pathogens team at Institute of Biology at ENS (IBENS), which is a leading European institute in life sciences, dedicated to uncovering the fundamental mechanisms and principles that govern living systems in both health and disease. IBENS is located in the center of Paris. It is home to 30 research teams and more than 300 staff members specializing in Genetics and Genomics, Developmental Biology, Neuroscience, and Ecology & Evolutionary Biology. The postdoc will be working in an office shared with other team members and have full access to IBENS core facilities including the computing cluster. As the Modelling of Pathogens team is joint between IBENS and Institut Pasteur, the postdoc will be co-affiliated with Institut Pasteur and have access to its stimulating scientific environment (e.g., have a possibility to attend seminars) too.
