Missions

A postdoc on stratospheric data analysis is available at LATMOS/UVSQ under the supervision of Dr. Slimane Bekki and Dr. Sergey Khaykin. The successful candidate will develop codes for the analysis of observational data (e.g. satellite, balloon) and models on stratospheric chemistry and physics. The postdoc will use these codes to study measurements from balloon campaigns and satellite missions, including volcanic eruptions and large forest fires, in conjunction with data from chemistry-aerosol-transport models.

Activities

The candidate will participate in the development of codes and use them in the analysis of atmospheric chemistry/physics data. These tasks require skills in the development and optimization of:
- atmospheric chemistry-transport codes.
- statistical analysis and visualization codes in Python.

Skills

Professional awareness, organization, teamwork.
- The candidate should have a PhD in numerical modeling of the atmosphere.
- Required skills include strong programming experience in Python as well as an excellent background in atmospheric science, particularly the stratosphere.
- Extensive experience in the analysis of atmospheric observational and modeling data is highly recommended.

Work Context

The LATMOS Laboratory is a joint research unit specializing in the study of physicochemical processes governing the Earth's and planetary atmospheres and their interfaces with the surface, the ocean, and the interplanetary environment.
To do this, the laboratory has developed a strong instrumental competence, building innovative instruments deployed from the ground, and sometimes put into orbit or out to meet other bodies in the solar system. Numerical models of the atmosphere are also being developed and used to interpret the various observations.
