Missions

The candidate will contribute to the collection, processing and analysis of linguistic data, while learning the skills required for the research work of the ERC “The Small Bang” project.

Activités

-Data Collection: Gather lexical data from a variety of sources, with priority given to in situ data to complement available data.
-Processing and Analysis: Organize, enter and analyze data using specialized software (Excel, Praat, ELAN, FLEx, etc.).
-Scientific Participation: Actively contribute to scientific events, with the possibility of participating in academic publications and presentations.

Compétences

-Degree required: Master's degree in linguistics or a related field (anthropology, oral history, archaeology).
-Knowledge: Although expertise in African linguistics is desirable, we welcome motivated candidates with solid skills in analyzing linguistic or anthropological data, even without prior specialization in West Africa.
-Interpersonal skills: Good communication skills, ability to work as part of a team and to take the initiative.
-Languages: Written and oral proficiency in French and/or English.

Contexte de travail

The candidate will join the “The Small Bang” ERC Project team under the supervision of Dr. Abbie Hantgan-Sonko, at LLACAN, UMR8135 CNRS, Laboratoire de Langage, Langues et Cultures d'Afrique in Villejuif. This laboratory is a dynamic community of researchers conducting world-class research on African languages. Contraintes et risques

The engineer will be based in France, in the Paris region. The ERC BANG Project brings together a team of young researchers under the supervision of Dr. Abbie Hantgan-Sonko. In person work is strongly recommended.
Travel may be required for data collection. Field missions may involve risks related to living conditions in remote areas. The candidate must be prepared to adapt and work closely with local communities, particularly in Senegal and other West African countries.
